|Congressman Mick Mulvaney has announced
this year's competition deadlines and criteria for the 5th
District of South Carolina.
All high school students living in or attending school in the 5th District are eligible to compete, whether or not they are currently enrolled in art classes.
The winning pieces from each district are shipped to Washington, DC to hang for 11 months in the Cannon Tunnel, and they are viewed by thousands of visitors as well as the Congressional members.
In June, a celebratory reception is held in DC to honor the district winners. Last year's first place winner was Christian Pellot of Fort Mill for his work entitled "Glimpse" (pictured at left).
This year our juror will be Ms. Barbara Curry, a professional artist whose studio is located at the Center for the Arts in Rock Hill. To learn more about Barbara, visit her website at Unity Tree Arts.
